The risk calculation for grounding scenarios is again subdivided into two parts. In the first part, the frequency of a possible grounding event will be calculated. In the second part, the consequences are expressed as repair or new building costs. The presented procedure is only applicable to hard-groundings like, e.g., a collision with rocks or coral-reefs. Such groundings induce high local loads in the ship structure that can result in large damages in the bottom area of the ships.
