Activities started on July 2013 in order to locate and characterize
RCs by direct observations and registering their geographical position
(UTM coordinates), amplitude and intensity (visible flow, rip
channel and rip current Fig. 4b.) using digital formats made in
Microsoft Excel (Fig. 5b). Field campaigns were conducted along the
coast for georeferencing RCs (UTM Universal Transversal Mercator)
using DGPS (differential geopositional system), tools of GIS Mobil
Mapper (10 Ashtech) were used to post-process differential of GPS
data. The information will allow the spatial and temporal variation
description of RC and identify areas with potential risks for swimmers
(Fig. 5a).
