Ocimum citriodorum Vis or lemon basil is a cross-pollination cultivar
from two chemotypes of sweet basil; Ocimum basilicum and
Ocimum americanum (Paton & Putievsky, 1996; Viña & Murillo,
2003). It belongs to the botanical family Lamiaceae and the genus
Ocimum which contains between 50 and 150 species of herbs
and shrubs from the tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Central
and South America
