The ability to repeat high-intensity short-duration sprints is an important component of fitness for field-based team sports (Mohr et al. 2003) such as soccer, rugby, and field hockey. A warm-up is defined as any preliminary performance that enhances physical activity (Bishop et al. 2001; Burnley et al. 2005). Warming up has been shown to improve performance during single sprints and during the first in a series of intermittent sprints (Yaicharoen et al. 2012). Thus, optimal warm-up is essential for optimal high-intensity exercise performance.
