For the study 50 FYBSC students from V. P. & R. P. T. P. Science College were selected as sample for the experiment. All the students were from Gujarati medium schooling, passed their 12th science from Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Gandhinagar. Among the whole group there were 30 female and 20 male students.
Five lessons were selected as ideal sample for the role play in Indian context from the book Spoken English. The whole experiment was of 30 hours of teaching and practicing. It was divided roughly in three stages, in the sense of level of difficulty. In the first part they were introduced to the role play and dialogue writing. Then they tried to write simple conversation with the friends, like self introduction and introducing friend to others. In the second stage students were asked to refer to the readily available conversations from the book Spoken English. Students were asked to understand the conversation and assume to be one character and actually play the role of that character in the classroom. At last, in the last stage, students were asked to select situation, characters, develop a full conversation and dramatize it.
