The first step of a reaction catalyzed by Bronsted acid is usually
initiated by protonation of the reactant at the reaction site,
which is either a double bond (unsaturated functional group) or
a heteroatom with nonbonded electrons (usually oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur). The resulting cation then undergoes further
