There’s a very special restaurant hidden away at the bottom of Glasgow’s Ingram Street, and that restaurant’s name is Sapporo Teppanyaki.

Upon walking in, you might feel as though you’re out of your depth as you spot each table with it’s own personal chef. You panic. It all looks very fancy. Expensive, maybe. As they say in Glasgow, ‘calm doon’ and allow me to subvert your expectations for a moment.

Sapporo Teppanyaki is a huge venue, with tables laid out in groups for that unique teppanyaki dining experience. You’re not just settling down for dinner; this is a show. Each chef is trained in the art of teppanyaki cuisine, demonstrating impressive, skilled manoeuvres during the preparation and delivery of your meal.

The chefs like to joke with you during the show and they’ll show off their skills with enthusiasm. Reckon you could catch an appetiser if it were delivered through the air? Neither did I, but seeing as minimal effort was required on my part, this turned out to be a very easy and highly amusing experience.

Aside from the showmanship demonstrated by the chefs, there’s something else that stands out as particularly impressive about Sapporo Teppanyaki and that, of course, is the food. There’s great transparency here; you see everything cooked right in front of you and the chefs take great pride in their ingredients, so you’ll be pleased to know that everything is responsibly sourced, fresh and of the highest quality.

What’s more, is that the food is very reasonably priced regardless of whether you visit during lunch or stop by for dinner. Which is fantastic, considering this is the only teppanyaki restaurant in the city.

Sapporo Teppanyaki is a a young, vibrant and exciting venue with a huge selection of delicious cuisine that’ll impress even the most seasoned sushi connoisseurs.
