remember I once read an article about this... I think it was Arthur C. Clarke's, in any case a popular science fiction writer's, detailing his forecasts for each year of the 21st century (including 2100). And I remember that the line for 2100 states that humans would start the first expeditions to the stars... the future would be so exciting, the possibilities are wonderful. There'll be expansions (with setbacks, of course, starting from the damage of the environment and quaint ways of life that many people hold near and dear) in almost all areas.. As human life and knowledge and development of technology has leapt largely during the previous century, it would not be too hopeful to expect the same, or even greater, degrees of achievements during the course of this one. We might manage intellligent AI, regular orbital and lunar vacations, plastic cities, life longevity... most of the stuff of scifi might come to realization.
