Reliability-based trust is grounded in an organization’s perception of a potential partner’s actual behavior and operating performance. Essentially, it involves a perception that the partner is willing to perform and is capable of performing as promised. If supply chain participants cannot rely on partner performance as promised, all efforts to develop collaborative relationships fail. Simply put, a firm that is perceived as incapable of delivering as promised will also be perceived as being unreliable and therefore unworthy of trust in a relationship.
