The focus is still on the solution written on the board and the process of
translation from a ‘word problem’ to a ‘symbolic representation’ of the problem,
but in this sub-event the focus moves to the formulation of an equation that
can be used to solve the problem, and on evaluating whether this represents the
problem accurately or not. The student's formulation is discussed, negated and
replaced by other formulations which are judged as correct.
