My role model is a famous Spanish professional cyclist, Alberto Contador. He was
born on December 6th in the year 1982 in a small town just down south of Madrid, Pinto.
Alberto was the third child of four children in his family. His first impression towards the
cycling career was brought about by one of his older brothers, which thankfully, made him
ambitious and thrive to become a professional cyclist. Alberto officially started off by
becoming a cadet of a local cycling team at the age of fifteen, struggling at first with no
victory, but as he gained more experience, his talent had shown out and eventually he became
successful, winning consecutively in a matter of almost ten years.
The success of his career can be seen in his ability to win awards annually since
2007 through 2015 in various cycling competitions which include the three Grand Tours:
Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a Espana. He has won two awards in Tour de
France, two more in Giro d’Italia, and also three consecutive wins in Vuelta a Espana.
Currently, Alberto responded to the media after his recent race about the plans for the
upcoming event in 2016, and also the unfortunate news about his confirmation in ending his
career. According to Alberto, “Next year, we’ll change the plan completely, focusing fully on
the Tour and will come with a few different ambitions, I want to plan a season like 2014, fight
in the early-season races at the highest level, with intensity, do the Tour and the Olympics,
which I think are hard and maybe will suit me for once. Then? We’ll see. It’s very difficult
that I don’t retire. Possibly it’s time to put a full stop and step away” (Brown 3).
