Dangers
Despite the benefits, cell phone usage in teens can provide plenty of opportunities for irresponsibility and dangerous activity. According to psychologist Suzanne Phillips, writing for PBS.org, four out of five teenagers sleep with their phones at night, which can lead to anxiety, sleep deprivation and a cell phone addiction. Cell phones also provide the possibility of experiencing "cyberbullying" and harassment from peers. Some teens also participate in "sexting," which can seem fun and exciting to your child but can also lead to humiliating situations. Finally, your teen might be tempted to text while driving, which is extremely dangerous, illegal in some states and can lead to fatal accidents.
