It is no secret that the evolution of the computer has made great advancements in becoming a part of our everyday lives. So much so, that most of us are fixed with one at any given moment. Specifically, social media has become a prominent mode of both receiving and putting out information. Not only do people of this day and age rely on social media platforms for keeping in touch with loved ones, but many also take advantage of the news companies that have a presence on these social media platforms, and get their news from here as well. It is a somewhat forced attachment , but I would argue that it is this attachment that has caused such a shift in the way we communicate. There are people who would prefer to text or email, as opposed to a good, old fashioned face-to-face conversation, or even a phone call--I am sure this describes at least one person you know personally. One might assume prolonged use of cell phones, tablets, computers, and even smart TVs must have some adverse effects, given the fact that these sort of things are not things we as human beings evolved accustomed to. There are studies that go into the behavioral issues associated with prolonged social media use in adolescence. There are also studies that confirm the obvious physical side effects of such use. With this I would like to assess just how influential social media is to us in an age of digital culture, and how its impact might be a detriment to society in the long run.
