You are here: HighlightsKad Kong Ta
Kad Kong Ta is located on Talad Kao Road, on the banks of the Wang River, Mueang District, Lampang. It used to be the local economic community, which dated back to more than 100 years. Prior to the year 1916, the market had evolved over the years into the leading trade and shipping centre of Lampang; however, from 1916 onwards, it became obsolete as a result of the construction of the Northern railway. Therefore, the once-thriving community was abandoned by the vast majority of people who then settled instead in the area surrounding the railway station as is now known as the Kao-jao Community. Nevertheless, at present, Kad Kong Ta has been revived and now becomes one of the main focuses of interest in Lampang for both Thais and foreigners, with the market's trading activities coming to fruition again. It sells mostly local and handicraft products, traditional foods and souvenirs, as well as having special events held on some occasions. It is open at the weekend (on both Saturday and Sunday) from 5 pm to 10 pm.
