Those who came to America suffered from culture shock. The Vietnamese and
American cultures are vastly different, a fact that caused many to have problems
assimilating into American culture. Many people had trouble learning the new language
and some still use Vietnamese in the home and practice Vietnamese traditions.
Ultimately, Phuoc Tran still considers herself and her children to be both Vietnamese and
American. They still practice Vietnamese customs and traditions but are also fullyfunctioning American citizens
