Good afternoon,
Last week was a very busy week for us at St. Andrews! It’s hard to believe we have only five weeks to go! Every Monday the students in Maths calculate how many days are left in the school year. Today we calculated that there are only 24 left! Yikes!
Assessments- This week the teachers are busy assessing students’ progress over the past term. We try not to bog down the kids with too many “tests” and break things up a little. We’ll be finishing our maths assessment, starting or writing assessment, a spelling assessment and of course our reading assessment! Busy week ahead! These scores will be made available to you on the final report card.
Curriculum letters- These will be sent out this Friday, and will give you an overview of our final Unit of Inquiry and half term.
Holiday- Remember, there is no school on Monday June 1st! Have a lovely long weekend!
Online Testing- This yearly event will take place next week. There is no preparation for students, other than having a good sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast in the morning!
Year 3 summative assessment for UOI 5- We’ve been hard at work creating a giant art installation as a summative assessment for this unit! We have been painting, cutting, glueing, pastelling, coloring and thinking! We hope to have everything completed by Friday. We’ll let you know when we are finished our masterpiece, and we welcome you to stop by and see! We have aimed to communicate peace and tolerance to our whole school. It’s really turning into something!
Telling Time- We have completed our Maths unit on telling time. Most students should be able to tell time to o’clock, half past, quarter after and quarter to, as well as to 5 minute intervals (4:55). Time is a tricky concept for many students to grasp, and it takes much practice. Even though the unit has ended, we will continue to use time in our conversations around school, and we strongly encourage you to do the same at home. It is as easy as asking your child “what time is it?” You can extend what they know by asking them to say the time in a different way (e.g.: four-thirty or half-past four.) Practice makes perfect!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Regards,
MG
