Luciano Pavarotti was a great opera singer. He was famous all over the world. He was born in Modeno, Italy in 1935. When he was a teenager, he sang with the chorus in his city. His father sang in the chorus, too. They traveled around Europe and gave concerts. The group won a contest in Wales in 1955. After that, he took classes to become a better singer. While he was studying, he worked as a teacher and a salesman. In 1961, Pavarotti won an important contest. He got a part in the opera, La Boheme.
For most of the 1960s, he performed opera and traveled around the word. In the 1970s, he started to appear on television programs. This made him even more popular. In 1990, he joined two other tenors, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, to give the Three Tenors Concert. The concert took place the night before the World Cup. The album they recorded sold more copies than any other classical recording. After this, the three singers gave concerts before the World Cup in 1994, 1998, and 2002.
Throughout his life, Pavarotti performed concerts to raise money for charity. The money helped people after wars and earthquakes. in 2006, he found out he had pancreatic cancer. He died in 2007.
