O2total to hypoxia and hyperoxia
Acute exposure to most combinations of hypoxia and
hyperoxia at the air cell and egg had little effect on V ·
O2total
(Table 1). The only significant decrease in V ·
O2total occurred
when both the egg and the air cell were exposed to hypoxia
( pb0.001). The only significant increase in V ·
O2total was observed
when the egg was exposed to hyperoxic gas and the air
cell was exposed to hypoxic gas ( p=0.003). For all other
treatments, there were no significant changes between the preexposure
V ·
O2total and the treatment V · O2total. There were no
significant differences in egg mass between the different treatments
( p=0.5) ensuring there was no effect of mass between
treatments.
