The opportunities and challenges of developing silviculture that supports economically sound consumptive uses, While sustaining biodiversity of forests, will continue to be debated among those interested in natural resource management. The objective or the symposium, as summarized in the following pages, was to explore a concept of incorporating natural disturbance patterns in siliviculture and its implementation from a variety of perspectives and diverse forest types. Our hope is that this symposium will encourage and expand the ongoing discussion of how these concepts can be more widely adopted in forest management.
