Our clinical observations have suggested that acquiring disease-related knowledge could potentially result in negative emotional reaction. Although this intervention did not lead to a decrease in levels of anxiety and depression, neither was there an increase of indications of negative emotionality. On the basis of our findings a question may be raised whether the pathway between disease-related knowledge and emotional adversity may be moderated by other variables such as sense of control (Molloy et al. 2008, Garlo et al. 2010) and coping style (Leventhal & Leventhal 2003, Jackson et al. 2005).
