F-Induced Production of Reticulocytes
An accelerated elimination of erythrocytes from peripheral
blood often results in enhanced production of immature red
blood cells, reticulocytes, as a compensatory response. Indeed,
the percentage of reticulocytes in the blood of all three
groups of F-exposed rats was significantly higher as compared
to control group, reaching ~65 % increase in the blood
of rats consuming 10 ppm F (Fig. 3). However, elevation of
the water F content to 20 ppm did not lead to further rise in
the number of released reticulocytes.
