The absence of BIT’ed fiber optic transceiver technology is problematic because it only provides 33% fault isolation capability. This concept is illustrated in Figure 14 whereby the three potential fault scenarios are delineated.
Scenario #1: Faulty WRA transmitter (Tx) or intra-WRA fiber optic wiring.
Scenario #2: Faulty WRA receiver (Rx) or intra-WRA fiber optic wiring.
Scenario #3: Faulty WRA-to-WRA fiber-optic cabling (i.e., loose connector, contaminated-connector, kinked fiber optic cable, broken fiber optic cable, loose fiber optic terminus, etc.).
