Submaximal shuttle run test
Participants were fitted with a Polar Team System heart rate monitor (Polar Electro Oy1, Kempele,Finland) before completing 5 min of shuttle running at a pre-set speed. This test was performed indoors with participants running out and back, completing 20-m shuttles between two lines and keeping pace with an audio signal that required the athletes to run
at 200 m min71 (*12 km h71). On completion of the 5-min run, participants were asked to provide their rating of perceived exertion (Borg’s 6–20 scale) during the run. Mean heart rate for the 5-min test was calculated using Polar Precision Performance
software (version 4.0) (Polar Electro Oy1, Kempele, Finland).
