The diabetogenic agent Streptozotocin (STZ), isolated from Streptomyces achromogenes is a genotoxic agent and a potential source of oxidative stress. The STZ-induced diabetes rat model is widely used in basic
studies to evaluate the effects of DM on male infertility. Shrilatha and Muralidhara have demonstrated the
increased oxidative stress in the STZ-induced diabetic model which greatly participates in the development of
spermatogenic dysfunction. The seed of the date palm tree (Phoenix dactylifera L.), which constitutes 10-15% of
the fruit weight is a byproduct of date processing industries. With world production of dates reaching 9 million tons ~ 960 thousand tons of seeds are produced and being wasted or partly used as fodder, noncaffeinated coffee, or a source of dietary fibers.
