Dear N1 Parents,
October 28th, 2015
Greetings and welcome back all parents and students!
We trust you all enjoyed a good break and are ready for the second half of Term 1!
First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all PST and parent helpers who made International Week such a success! It was a wonderful show of creativity, team work and care for our community and for our children.
In addition, I would like to clarify and update a few upcoming events to NK parents. NK has adopted a community service program that we now call ‘WE GIVE, WE SHARE’. This was launched last year as part of the curriculum to create awareness among staff, parents and children of the different communities that need help and to work together to provide help to them.
Last year, we raised funds through the “Ice Bucket Challenge” and by putting out donation boxes. The money collected was then used to by items such as solar cells for a border school that lacks facilities in Kanchanaburi. The SISB team along with parents travelled to the school to donate the items to the school.
This year, we started with 15000 baht that was brought forward and have adopted another school, Ban Pa Mak, in Prachuab Khiri Khan. We are now in the process of raising funds to support the school with some necessities that they lack such as solar cells, sign boards, washing sink etc. The details were sent via email and google community to all parents earlier this term.
Currently, we have raised 18941 baht in Nursery 1 Pracha Uthit and 44, 160 baht from NK Suvarnabhumi. Ekkamai campus and PU N2 – K2 campus are still going to launch their fund raising event in the upcoming weeks.
Community service is part of the curriculum as it is a requirement by the MOE and by other accredited boards those schools engage children, parents and teachers in community service and in giving back to the community. Using curriculum time to do this creates awareness among our children of the purpose of fund raising and also involves them in raising the fund instead of just dropping money into the box.
The learning that is taking place during this time is very crucial to building our children’s character and to see what teamwork is all about. As parents actively participated in giving our children happiness during the International Day, the teachers also have a responsibility to create awareness to help children understand social responsibilities through such events. NO curriculum will be lost and our teachers will ensure that our students do not fall behind academics in any way.
Hence, N2 – K2 in PU has decided on November 6th, as a day to host a mini fun day in the NK building for our parents and students to have a chance to participate in games with the teachers. Details of the event will be sent to you early next week.
The event will begin at 9 am and will continue until 12 pm. Parents or caregivers will be able to bring the students in by 9 to join in the fun by buying tokens to play the games. All funds raised will be accumulated to the “WE GIVE, WE SHARE” project. More importantly, we want the children to know where the money is going, to be able to contribute to the fundraising in a fun way and also to watch their teachers working to organize games and guide them through a fun day.
Parents who are unable to attend are encouraged to send the children with a family member or nanny. The teachers will be monitoring them and everyone will be able to participate in the event.
Parents who have children in the Primary and Secondary sections who have to report to school early can enjoy breakfast and a good cup of coffee in PC 1. We will have special provision of snacks and coffee, prepared by the teachers for all to enjoy. All proceeds for the snacks will also go to the project.
As this is the longest term that we have and we have scheduled to visit the school on the 28th of November, we find that the 6th is the best time for NK PU to organize the event. We would also like to tie it into the spirit of giving for Christmas and to spread the joy towards the end of the year.
NK Shoe box collection is also dedicated to the WE GIVE, WE SHARE project, where parents can work with their children to prepare a shoe box full of useful items and toys for the children of Ban Pa Mak. As we have a small number of students in the border school, the balance of the boxes will be donated to the different community service centers such as Duang Pratheep foundation and more.
It may seem to many parents that school is hosting many events, however, every event is part of our children’s learning curve as education is about Intellectual and Social Emotional growth.
N1 will not have any event on the 6th, however parents who wish to bring their N1 children to enjoy the games, may do so and drop them back after the event for the remaining of the day. N1 will operate as per normal on that day.
In order to facilitate this event, we would like to know how many parents will be unable to join the event so that the academic team can make provisions for children who come without parents to also enjoy a day of fun.
N2 – K2 students will be participating in the events from 9 am onwards. After the event, parents may leave the children with the teachers for lunch and can come back and pick them up at 2.30. N2 parents who wish to take their children back after the event may do so as well. Kindly, take note that parents do not need to prepare anything for this event.
Thank you for your understanding and support
