13. Change sterile gloves.
To minimize risk of cross infection and to comply with infection control policy.
14. Apply clean pouch as in section B and wait for half an hour to check for drainage.
Encourage patient to drink a glass of water if appropriate.
To check for patency of tube. To check for dehydration. To promote diuresis.
15. If flushing fails, contact medical staff.
May require a new nephrostomy tube.
16. Remove gloves and apron and wash hands after completing procedure.
