The green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed to
a control and 5 Ni concentrations for 64 h. The differently treated
algae were harvested, and their Ni contents and nutritional quality
were measured. They were then used as food in a 21-day life-table
experiment with D. magna, during which survival and reproductionwere
monitored daily. Daphnia growthwasmeasured as length
at the end of the experiment and at the same time, their Ni body
burden was measured.
