Anxiety All participants completed a battery of measures during the three assessments, from which an eight-item composite index of anxiety was formed. This measure included four items (nervous, scared, jittery, afraid) from the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS; Watson,Clark, & Tellegan, 1988), one item (calm and peacefulV reverse scored) from the SF-12 (Ware, Kosinski, & Keller,1996), and three items (feel so anxious want to cry, hard to relax, feel very panicked) from the Index of Clinical Stress (Abell, 1991).
