(i) Grain mould before
physiological maturity (PM) caused by pathogenic fungi, hence such
mould can be called ‘pathogenic mould’ and (ii) Grain mould after
PM caused by both pathogenic (which infected before PM) as well as
by saprophytic fungi that invade dead grain tissue, hence can be
called ‘grain mould’ or ‘grain weathering’. In pathogenic
mould, infection starts at flowering by pathogenic fungi, e.g., Fusarium
verticillioides (Sacc.) Nirenberg, F. moniliforme Sheldon, F.
thapsinum Klittich, Leslie, Nelson, et Marasas, F. proliferatum
