Differences between tree communities
Pairwise comparisons of environmental variables between communities showed only differences for nitrogen, CEC, clay
fraction and soil depth (Table 2).
The plots of the mixed deciduous forest community occurred on hapli-humic acrisols,
which were significantly deeper and had a higher clay content
(Table 2).
Trees were significantly taller (Table 3; Fig. 4) and a diversity was higher (Table 1). The plots of the dry deciduous
dipterocarp forest occurred on shallow soils which were classified as regosols. Stands were crowded (significantly higher
stem density) and trees were significantly smaller (Table 3;Fig. 4).
The mesic phase of the deciduous dipterocarp forest was intermediate in many aspects (Tables 2 and 3; Fig. 4) but it stood
out in b diversity (Table 1).
