The body contact with the mother is the
primary relationship for the infant with
another, for it is at the mother’s breast that
the process of humanization begins. While it
is true to say that humans cannot live by milk
alone, nevertheless the nourishment and immunities,
as well as other physiologic benefits
obtained by the suckling infant should
never be underestimated. Body contact is
primary, but is best and most perfectly
achieved in the breast-feeding relationship.
