In 2007-2008, the number of U.S. college students undertaking study abroad reached 262,416Fmore than three times the number of Americans who travelled overseas for academiccredit 20 years ago (Open Doors, 2009). As a result, an increasing number of stakeholders ineducation and government are seeking information and policy advice regarding the planningof study abroad learning, particularly in the present environment of intense administrativefocus on institutional accountability, return on investment, and well-articulated learningoutcomes.
