The differences between
Ann’s lessons showed clear evidence of how her participation in the learning studies

had influenced her teaching. Contrasting right and wrong ways of connecting the
diode is a typical example of an application of variation theory and even if she was
well aware of her objectives and students’ learning difficulties already in lesson 1,
the learning possibilities in lesson 2 were much more obvious according to her aims
with the lesson. Her awareness of contrasting concepts as a way to promote students’
