The New Economics Foundation’s Happy Planet Index ranks a nation’s progress based on the amount of the Earth’s resources its inhabitants use and the length and happiness of people’s lives. According to the study, a high consumption level does not necessarily guarantee happiness. It claims that people can live long, happy lives without using more than their “fair share” of the Earth’s resources.
