From 1986 to 1992, significant changes in change vectors occurred for covered by the two Landsat TM scenes (Silapaswan et al., 2001), as seen in Fig. 11. In the 1986 image, over 135,000 ha had significant change, primarily as increases in the TM4/TM3 and TM5 indices. There were also areas of significant decrease in the two indices, some of which occurred in two large 1990 burns. The 1992 image had over 110,000 ha of significant change, primarily as a decrease in the two indices. A post-classification change detection, based on unsupervised classification of the 1986 and 1992 TM images indicated the predominant land-cover change to be in the direction of increased shrub cover
