Schoolwide positive behavior
interventions and supports (SWPBIS) are
a systems-level framework used in
schools and districts around the country
to improve school climate, reduce
exclusionary discipline, and improve
overall student success (Sugai & Horner,
2009). The SWPBIS framework utilizes a
team problem-solving approach in the
selection and implementation of a range
of evidence-based interventions that
meet the needs of the student
population. In light of the recent federal
announcements supporting discipline
practices that keep children in schools
(U.S. Department of Justice, 2011), the
need for a systematic approach to
improving school climate has increased
dramatically
