In this study, an experimental investigation was conducted on shear strengthening of continuous concrete beams with
externally prestressed steel bars. Three 3-span concrete beams, including an un strengthened control beam, were
subjected to monotonic two-point loading that induced shear failure. Load versus mid span deflection, load carrying
capacity, stiffness before and after cracking, and cracking pattern and failure mode were obtained. The
measured shear capacities were then compared with those from the equations of ACI 318-11 and the AASHTO
LRFD specifications.
