insects are funnelled into malaise traps placed in sets strategically at several sites on Searsville Lake and Middle Marsh (Fig 1.) Traps are oriented such that insects coming from different directions are captured in separate bottles (filled with soapy water) labelled by cardinal direction and whether the side is facing the water or land. These samples are then collected after a week. The insects that have fallen into the traps are then indentified to family levels, counted, dried, weighed, and stored for later isotopic analysis (15N content).
