‘Taiten’ was selected among F1offspring populations from across of PCNA × non-PCNA, and released in 2009 (Yamada et al., 2012a, b). It is a PVA cultivar with large fruit, high productivity, and high eating quality. It was developed from the strategy in the NIFTS breeding program. The second stage of the breeding strategy was a back-cross between ‘Taiten’ and PCNA genotypes and making marker-assisted selection (MAS) for the resulting off spring population.
