The obtained results are summarized in Table 5 in which the same value has been included as well as meq Ca2+/g for clarity. The synthetic zeolites A synthesized from raw kaolin shows low CEC when prepared without any aging, 150 mg CaCO3/g in R-3 M-3 h*, and R-3 M-0 G-3 h. When comparing these two samples with the equivalent P series, a notable increase of the CEC is observed most probably due to the benefit of the treatment that allows removing the excess of impurities. Upon aging, the remaining quartz both in R or P series gets dissolved allowing for the growth of more crystalline zeolites A and thus reaching optimum values of CEC up to 290 mg CaCO3/g in R-3 M-3 G-3 h and 295 mg CaCO3/g in P-3M-3G-3 h. The highest cation exchange capacity exhibited by P-3 M-3 G-3 h (295 mg CaCO3/g) probably attributed to the highest crystallinity (90%) of the sample. The CEC of almost all the synthetic materials studied fulfill the detergent standards with >160 mg CaCO3/g.
