The findings revealed that participants’ liked the Bos Park greatly after they understood the park’s goal, how the goal was implemented, and what the park looked like. In Taiwan, none of the existing urban parks were established based on the concept of natural succession. Even the so called ‘forest parks’ were mainly recreation-centered, and not ecologically sustainable due to the lack of plant diversity, and natural habitats for birds and animals. Participants’ preferences for the concept of Bos Park could be due to the effect of the Taiwan government’s active promotion of environmental education in the past year. In addition, the results showed that participants presented a strong support for the construction of an eco-oriented park like the Bos Park in the Taipei metropolitan area. This result can be explained by people’s dissatisfaction with Taipei’s environmental quality, and belief in urban greenery for improving air quality (Hsueh et al., 2000; Chen, 2005).
