war, Winston Churchill famously
said, “I cannot forecast to you the
action of Russia. It is a riddle, wrapped
in a mystery, inside an enigma.” What
Churchill, nor anyone else at the time could
have foreseen were the years of war, suffering,
and record economic growth that followed, as
well as the role that Russia would inevitably play
in changing the course of U.S., and our
world’s, history.
