(3) Use a targeted approach in which one or more empirical indices
depict the relative health-related concerns associated with
"pollutant" emissions (e.g., stresses related to physical, chemical,
biological, and/or radiological emissions), environmental transport
and fate pathways, environmental media contamination potential,
and/or potential remediation measures and their effectiveness in
reducing existing contamination. An example is a hazard rating
scheme based on chemical characteristics (Sors, 1982).
Information on other targeted approaches is also available (Canter,
1993). The results of the targeted approach could then be integrated
into the appropriate activities associated with the EIA study.
