The digital camera market seems to be in a state of flux these days as manufacturers compete to establish themselves in the CSC (Compact System Cameras) and bridge camera markets. CSCs feature interchangeable lenses and are offered as an alternative to chunky DSLR cameras, while bridge cameras offer an all-in-one solution with a zoom range that really does cover all the options.
The new Sony DSC-HX400V is just such a model and it comes with a staggering 50x optical zoom lens. In 35mm terms that’s a range that goes from a wide-angle of 24mm up to an amazing bird-stalking 1200mm. Obviously, to make sure the shots are as crisp as possible at such high magnification Sony has included its SteadyShot optical anti-shake technology. There’s a handy zoom range etched into the lens barrel as well as smooth manual zoom and focus ring should you prefer to frame and adjust shots the analogue way.
