The boiling point of water
Most people know that it takes longer to boil a large amount of water than it does a small amount.
Does this mean that the larger amount boils at a higher temperature? In this experiment, you will work to answer this question.
Procedure
1. Pour the amount of liquid assigned you by your teacher into a 250 mL beaker. In your date table, record the temperature of the liquid.
2. Heat the beaker of liquid on the stove, reading and recording the temperature of the liquid every 30 seconds.
3. Continue to heat the liquid until about half of it has boiled away. Be sure to take readings the entire time the liquid is being heated.
4. Make a graph of your results. Plot the temperature of the liquid and the times at which your temperature readings were taken. Compare your results with those of other students.
