In greenhouse conditions, melon pollen tube lengths in the pistil
of C. anguria vary among samples. This large variance was speculated
as having resulted from daily temperature changes in the
greenhouse (Fig. 1). The pollen tube lengths in the pistils of three
other species did not varyamongsamples in the greenhouse (Fig. 1),
which suggests that the temperature conditions might not make
a readily apparent difference in the pollen tube growth of these
cross combinations. Therefore the cross combinations might be
an important factor determining sensitivity to higher temperature
conditions in interspecific crosses of Cucumis spp.
