Help hands Monkey
Elliott Roes want to see his friend Tanya. he and Tanya were good friend when they were students at New York University. Five years ago, Elliott moved to Hong Kong Thin in his first time back to New York.
“A lot has happened since I last saw you," Tanya says on the phone." when you moved to Hong Kong. I was living in that small apartment next to the train station. And of course, that was before my accident. As you know, the first couple of years after my accident were really bad, but now things are good. Come visit me! I can’t wait to see you”
Three day later, Elliott takes a taxi to Tanya’s apartment. He starts to ring the doorbell but then he stops. How can Tanya get to the door? She can’t walk or more her arms. After the accident, she was paralyzed from the neck down.
“Well, she told me to ring the bell,” Elliot thinks. He rings the bell, and a minute later he hears the door being unlocked. When the door opens, Elliott can’t believe what he sees. A little monkey is standing in front of him.
“Oh” he calls out. “Hello there”
That’s Peanut he hears Tanya call from the next room. “Follow him”
Elliott follow the monkey into the living room. Tanya is in her wheelchair. Elliott gives her a kiss on the cheek. “It’s so good to see you!” he says.
“It’s great to see you, too!” she says.
“ How long have you had a pet monkey?” Elliott asks.
“Oh, peanut’s not pet. I got him from Helping Hands. It’ a group that trains monkeys to be service animals.”
“Service animals, you mean, like seeing-eye dogs for blind people?” asks Elliott.
“Yeah,” says Tanya as Peanut climbs onto her shoulder.
“Capuchin monkeys like Peanut are taught to help people like me. I also have a caregiver come in and help me, but she can’t stay all the time. Peanut is with me day and night. He does all sorts of thing for me, He can get me something to drink, turn on the TV, and even put a DVD into my DVD played”
Over the next three hours, Elliott and Tanya talk him about the past five years. Elliott tells Tanya about his life in Hong Kong, Tanya tells him about recovering from her accident and selling her first book of poems. Before long it is getting dark outside
Tanya tells Peanut to turn on the lights. The she say, “It’s almost time for Jane to come =. She’s my caregiver. Should I have her make us dinner?
“No, I’ll do the cooking. Elliott says, I just need Peanut to show me where the kitchen is.”
