● Poor quality of communication and understanding, leading to errors in technical and/or
project development
● Inability to match personal sociological understanding and experience with that of the
community, either when a foreign engineer enters the U.S. community or when a U.S.
engineer enters a foreign community
● Application of incorrect risk/cost/benefit analysis to that community
● Inability to provide adequate support services (e.g., cultural food stuffs, religious services,
and time within a day for purposes outside the basic U.S. business practice) to
meet the needs of the whole professional for the cultural situation in which he has been
placed
