Life is Fine
A summary of “Life is Fine” by Langston Hughes. This poem is a good example that demonstrates a situation when someone seeks solution for everything in death. However, his attempt fails and then he again makes an effort to kill himself by jumping from a sixteenth floor of a building. The reason for his decision to kill himself because he’s a broken-hearted man. Obviously, the loss of love is the motivation that pushes him into the death. Nevertheless, at the end he still alive as he finally realizes the importance of life enough to death. The theme of this poem is disillusionment that people often have about life and problems. When there is something extremely difficult and melancholic which may seem impossible to overcome. People want death as a coward way to running away from the pains in life. The rhyme scheme of this poem is A-B-C-B because the last word in the second line rhymes with the last word in the fourth line. He profoundly depicts the character’s hardships express his gloom to the reader. The bitterness in the character’s tone is evoked when he emphasizes the unavoidable failure when he tries to kill himself twice. The character depicts death as the only escape from reality. Life and death may seem to be two extremely opposite concepts. “Life is fine” not only addresses a typical scenario when person comes to death as an option to solve a problem but it’s also a meaningful lesson for everyone to reflect on themselves. In my opinion, the character might be sad, hopeless and timorous because he sad about to loss his lover and twice he thinks he want to commit suicide. But he doesn’t dare to do it and finally he is still alive. He couldn’t exchange death for love because he has a lot of things to do. From this poem I can learn that human life is worth the same, and worth saving. Life is worth more than loss of a love and self-abuse doesn’t solve a problem. Everyone will be conscious of a suitable solution. When I finished reading this poem, I feel like it because it remind me that anyone who has a problem should gradually solve it and start a new life with good things.
