policy,
and staff members are now more satisfied
with the process.
The professional education council members
meet annually to determine staff educational competency
requirements. They work collaboratively
with the education coordinator to schedule clinical
competency laboratories and volunteer to serve as
peer coaches for competency assessments. Volunteer
coaches commit to becoming expert in particular
high-risk, low-volume procedures and
equipment use. Increasing the volume of experts
contributes to staff member confidence and their
sense of professional purpose. The professional
education council members also identify educational
topics for bimonthly education meetings.
